Interior Wall Treatment

Rising Damp & Mould Treatment

Treat rising damp and mould at the source — without demolishing your walls. Our chemical DPC injection system works inside the wall's masonry structure, not just on the surface.

Understanding the Problem

What is Interior Wall Waterproofing?

Interior wall waterproofing addresses moisture that enters your home from below (rising damp) or through the wall fabric from outside. Unlike exterior treatments that work on the wall face, interior systems work within the wall itself — cutting off the moisture pathway at its source and stabilising the affected masonry for the long term.

The core treatment for rising damp is chemical DPC (damp-proof course) injection — a silane/siloxane cream injected into drilled holes along the base of the wall, where it cures into a continuous waterproof barrier inside the masonry. Above the DPC level, cementitious waterproofing slurry replaces the contaminated, salt-damaged plaster with a breathable, waterproof finish layer.

Where mould is present, a biocidal primer kills active spores and prevents regrowth for years — crucial during Kanpur's humid monsoon months when mould spreads rapidly on damp surfaces. All products used are safe for occupied residential and commercial spaces.

Signs You Need Interior Treatment

  • Tide marks or staining on lower sections of interior walls
  • Paint peeling from the bottom upward on inside walls
  • Persistent musty or earthy smell in rooms
  • Visible black or green mould patches on walls or ceiling
  • White salt crystals forming on plaster surfaces
  • Walls feel damp or cold to the touch even in dry weather

Our Process

Our 5-Step Approach

Rising damp cannot be fixed with paint alone — a correct diagnosis and systematic treatment is the only lasting solution.

01

Moisture Mapping

Electronic moisture meter readings taken at 300 mm intervals across all affected walls, building a precise map of damp zones, tide marks, and saturation levels to plan the treatment.

02

DPC Injection Points

Injection holes drilled at 120 mm intervals along a horizontal band 150 mm above floor level — the correct height to intercept rising damp before it climbs higher into the wall.

03

Chemical Injection

Silane/siloxane DPC cream injected under low pressure into each hole, filling the wall's capillary network and polymerising in situ to form a continuous chemical damp-proof course.

04

Cementitious Slurry Coat

Salt-contaminated plaster removed to a height of 1 m above the tide mark. Fresh salt-resistant cementitious slurry applied in two coats to re-plaster and waterproof the wall surface.

05

Mould-Inhibiting Primer

Biocidal, zero-VOC mould-killing primer applied over cured slurry. Safe for occupied rooms, this primer suppresses mould regrowth and provides the ideal base for finish paint.

Specified Materials

Products We Use

RisingStop DPC Cream

Silane/siloxane injection cream formulated for Indian masonry types — including fired clay brick, lime mortar rubble, and modern AAC block. Reacts with moisture inside the wall to polymerise into a hydrophobic barrier.

  • Active chemistry: Silane/siloxane blend
  • Chemical DPC longevity: 30 years
  • Coverage: 1 cartridge per 5 injection points

CemShield Slurry

Two-component cementitious waterproofing slurry for interior wall re-plastering in damp-affected zones. Resists negative water pressure and blocks salt crystal formation on the finished surface.

  • Application rate: 2 kg/m² (2 coats)
  • Water impermeability: 100%
  • Bond strength: 1.8 N/mm²

MouldKill Primer

Hospital-grade biocidal primer that kills active mould spores on contact and prevents regrowth for up to 5 years. Zero VOC — suitable for bedrooms, children's rooms, and occupied spaces throughout Kanpur's humid monsoon months.

  • VOC content: Zero
  • Biocidal activity: 5-yr rated
  • Coverage: 12–14 m²/L

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is rising damp and how is it different from condensation?+
Rising damp is groundwater drawn upward through the wall's capillary network — it leaves a distinct tide mark 0.5–1 m above floor level with white salt deposits and a musty smell. Condensation appears higher on walls and ceilings and occurs when warm humid air meets a cold surface. The two have very different remedies: rising damp needs a chemical DPC injection; condensation needs improved ventilation or insulation. Our moisture mapping distinguishes between them before any work begins.
Can I paint over damp walls with a waterproof paint to solve the problem?+
No — and this is one of the most common and costly mistakes. Painting over active damp walls traps moisture and salts inside, which builds up pressure and eventually blows the paint off entirely, often taking plaster with it. The only correct sequence is: stop the moisture source → remove contaminated plaster → apply cementitious waterproofing → prime → finish paint. Skipping steps leads to repeated, expensive failures.
How long does the chemical DPC injection process take?+
Drilling and injection for a standard room (four walls, 12 m perimeter) takes one working day. The cream then takes 4–6 weeks to fully cure and polymerise inside the wall. During this time the plaster re-work and slurry coats can proceed — they do not need to wait for the cream to cure. A finished room is typically ready for painting within 3–4 weeks of starting the treatment.
Is the treatment safe for rooms that are still occupied?+
Yes. RisingStop DPC Cream is water-based and low odour. MouldKill Primer is zero-VOC and certified safe for occupied spaces per BIS standards. We do ask residents to vacate the specific room during plaster-hack and re-plaster work (usually 1–2 days) due to dust, but the rest of the property can remain in use throughout the treatment.
